I've enjoyed reading your posts! I notice a theme for Zeitgeist Part 1 posts that goes something like this: "It made me think, but I am not about to give up my beliefs."
OK. I'm going to ask you, why?
Do you know why you believe what you believe?
What makes your belief better than some other person's belief? (I'm looking for reason here, not an argument of my Holy Book is better than yours).
Belief is not limited to what does or does not happen to you when you die. We have all kinds of beliefs--what is acceptable to eat, what clothes we should wear to a specific setting, how a classroom should look, what type of govt is best, etc.
Where do our beliefs originate?

Most of strong beliefs come from family-taught traditions and customs. I admit that I was raised to believe in Christianity; however, now at my age, I could easily believe in some other religion. I have decided (for myself) what to believe and whom to believe. Our beliefs originate from our experiences in life and others' actions.

ReplyDeleteOk so i just took the time to read eddies and mona response{an extensive amt of time}… from reading their response and looking at the video i realized y i shudnt believe whatz written in zeitgeist part 1. but because of my curiosity of all three parts i decided to do some research of my own and check out some of the things that were stated in the zeitgeist movies… haven’t found much.. but yea…. am still not 100% certain...religion is having a strong belief in a higher power and not being so easily swayed by whatever put in front of you… in the movie zeitgeist tells you that the fAQz about j.c. are the same as many gods before his time and that all the gods are based off the sun.. my question is what makes what they say more true than what I have been taught many years before??... what makes what eddie and mona said true or Mr. Harris or even my folks ?? The other day my sister was defending her religion … this made me think… where did religion come from?? what makes other religions wrong and my religion right??? All i know is that I believe in GOD because of my folks.. most people do grow up practicing the religion that their parents practice… does that make religion right?? was religion man made or is it serious?? The proof that is available is broken unfinished scrolls so what happen between that…. is that enough evidence to say that our religion is better than anyone else’s… I can conclude that a lot of people who practice Christianity are flakes meaning that in church they are sOo holy sanctified and filled with the holy ghost but outside of church they are liars thieves adulterers and everything else completely OPPOSITE of what’s talked about in church…. so does that make religion untrue??? I mean I’m NOT ONE who can answer my questions but they do exist?? What i do know is that I will hold fast to my faith in the LORD… it’s what the guide book for my parents when raising me and i will carry on the torch to my questions… i would rather live practicing my religion faithfully with the option of going to a place of eternal happiness than to not practice any religion and it exist… Nothing ventured nothing gained {haha ii used a fallacy!!!} when it all boils down any way all of the religions tell you to do sort of the same thing… be a good person… give back to the community.. help others and do what’s right… so why does it matter if my religion iis true or false… what harm am i doing by being a Baptist??
ReplyDeleteI believe the in the God of the Bible firstly because of my numerous experiences with him and his power. Through the name of Jesus I have seen the sick healed, demons cast out and much much more.

1. Descriptive Fulfillment of Prophesy
2. Archeological Evidence to Support its Claims
3. The Scientific Claims the bible makes before mans discovery.
i believe that belief is something that comes with up bring...Most of the time the way u were bought up is what your going to always and forever believe in...its basically what society and ur tell you...for instance some people believe in wearing certain things during a certain time...for instance white stockings...(BUT WHO WOULD WEAR THOSE ANY WAY)...lol...or white in general shouldnt be worn before of after a certain time...y because thats something thats been passed down from generation to generation.
